Research Unbound: A Library Orientation for Transfer, Upper-Division, and Graduate Students
Research Unbound is a series of online modules designed to help transfer students, upper-division students, and graduate students learn about the University Libraries' resources available to them. The goal of this e-course is to equip these students with the skills needed to be an effective researcher. At the end of this e-course, participants can complete a short quiz - with a grade of at least 80%, they earn a badge of completion.
This online course is broken up into several topical modules, and students should work through them in order -- the concepts and knowledge build on each other. These modules address:
- Starting a search, both with effective keywords and in knowing where to search for information;
- Different types of informational resources and their purposes - so, what to use, when;
- Evaluating the search results you find, whether on the Internet or in library databases;
- Expanding your search by using expert searchers' tricks, such as mining records and using subject terms; and,
- Making the most of OU Libraries' services and resources on-campus and off-campus.

Once you get a badge, you can access it as often as needed and submit it in future classes by entering the tutorial and following our instructions on how to share your badge.
