Finding Scholarly Articles in Google Scholar

Google Scholar allows you to search for full-text, scholarly articles in every field of study.

If Oakland University has access to those articles, you can click on the article to view it online. To ensure that Google Scholar is connected to OU Libraries, visit Google Scholar via the OU Libraries website. You can access this resource several ways, but the most direct route is to click on the Databases link on the library home page, select the letter G, and pick Google Scholar from the list.

When searching Google Scholar, the results look different from a standard Google search. You will see:

  • scholarly article title
  • authors of the article
  • title of the journal or publication where the article was published
  • date of publication

This is all important information for completing a references list for a paper.

Some articles will be free to view online. Other articles require a subscription to view them. When this is the case, try the "Get It! @ Kresge Library" link to the right of the article information. This will check to see if OU Libraries subscribes to the publication and will then grant you access to read the article online.
