Placing holds and requests in Library OneSearch

Need to place a request for item? It’s easy!

Enter your terms in the search bar and click "search."

Search To Kill a Mockingbird

Once you have located the item you'd like to request, check the availability as listed under the "Access options" dropdown in the item record. Items that are eligible for holds will have a "Place Request" option. Click on the option to complete the request process.

(Note that you can also click on the item's full catalog record, which will display the full bibliographic information about the title, as well as its location and availability within Kresge Library. The location will be listed on the left side of the catalog record page.)

Access Options

If you have not already signed into Library OneSearch with your NetID, you may be prompted to do so now. After clicking on the "Place Request" option on the item record, a new window will appear which will allow you to confirm the item copy and pickup location. Once you've selected the appropriate options, click the "Place request" button.

Place Request

After clicking "Place request," you'll receive a notification that the request has been made successfully.

Hold confirmation

After successfully making the request, you'll see on the item's record that an "On request" line has been added to the item record. The number of holds active will be noted, as well as your place in the holds queue.

(Note that if you want to remove the hold from your account, you can do so directly from the item record by selecting "Go to requests".)
Active Hold

To access a list of your active holds and requests, you can click on Requests & loans on the left side My dashboard and review the Requests tab to view and manage active holds.

All active holds will be listed in this section of your My dashboard, and the listing will be updated to reflect each item's availability once the item(s) become available for pickup at Kresge Library. Again, if you wish to remove the hold(s) from your account at any point, you can do so by logging into your library account and clicking the "Remove request" button.

Requests & loans

When your holds are available, you will receive an email with the relevant details of where and when you can pick up your item(s).
